Water contamination has been one of the main issues in recent past. The increasing contamination of water resources by nitrite due to the anthropogenic activities such as agriculture and water waste is receiving worldwide attention. The presence of nitrite in water could cause various human diseases; affect aquatic life etc. This makes the need for quantitative and qualitative determination of nitrite anion very important.

Towards this, in this project a three electrode electrochemical cell will be fabricated and characterized for the detection of nitrite. Microfabrication techniques like lithography, sputtering, spin coat and pyrolysis will be used to fabrication a three electrode electrochemical cell.  The fabricated electrodes will be characterized with standard electrolyte and tested with nitrite solution. For characterization electrochemical techniques like cyclic voltammeter will be used.
